De World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) is meestal een relatief stoffige club. Ze publiceren behoorlijk wat over intellectueel eigendom, maar vrij weinig dat je voor je plezier leest.
Daarom was het zo verrassend dat de WIPO nu een speciaal boek over auteursrecht voor kinderen uitbrengt. Uit de introductie:
The publication begins by briefly explaining the importance of the arts and the potential young people have to be outstanding authors. This part seeks to encourage young people to use their imagination, flexibility and self-expression to create original works of art. Furthermore, the Young Author segments appearing throughout the publication encourage readers by showing them how other young people are creating works and using copyright to protect them.
Mooie voorbeelden over wanneer een werk beschermd is en wat je met je auteursrecht kunt doen. Inclusief uitleg over het publiek domein en wat daar het voordeel(!) van is.
Het was vast niet de bedoeling, maar ik vond het wel erg grappig dat een van de toetsvragen was om na te gaan of “jouw land ook lid is van de Berner Conventie”.
